Understanding Your Aircon Warranty in the Philippines

What is and is not covered by aircon warranties in the Philippines, how to file a claim, and which brands offer the best warranty terms.

Standard Warranty Coverage

Most aircon brands sold in the Philippines offer a 1-year general warranty covering parts and labor, with an extended 3 to 5-year warranty specifically on the compressor. The compressor is the most expensive component in a split-type unit — replacement can cost PHP 8,000 to PHP 15,000 — so the compressor warranty is the most important figure to check before buying.

Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric offer a 5-year compressor warranty as standard across most of their residential range, which is among the best in the market. Panasonic and Carrier typically offer 3-year compressor warranties. Budget brands like Kolin and Koppel usually offer 1-year full warranty with a 3-year compressor warranty, which is acceptable at their price point.

What Voids Your Warranty

Having your unit serviced by a technician not accredited by the manufacturer is the most common way warranties are voided. Most brands require that any maintenance beyond basic filter cleaning — including refrigerant recharging, coil cleaning with chemicals, and electrical repairs — be performed by an accredited service center to preserve warranty coverage.

Installing the unit yourself without a licensed technician also typically voids the warranty. Damage from power surges, flooding, and improper voltage — using a 220V unit on a 110V supply or vice versa — is universally excluded. Physical damage, pest infestation (cockroaches nesting in units is common in Philippine homes), and modifications to the unit for purposes other than those stated in the manual are also excluded.

How to File a Warranty Claim in the Philippines

Keep your official receipt and the warranty card that came with the unit — these are required for any claim. Some brands also require the unit's serial number to be registered online within 30 days of purchase to activate the extended compressor warranty; Daikin and Carrier are among those with online registration requirements.

Contact the brand's authorized service center in your city rather than calling a third-party technician, even if the authorized center takes longer to schedule. Document the problem with photos or video before the technician arrives. If a claim is denied, escalate to the brand's customer service hotline and reference the DTI's Consumer Act of the Philippines (RA 7394), which requires sellers to honor warranty obligations and provides recourse if they do not.
