Window-type units cost significantly less to purchase and install. A 0.75 HP window-type unit from a mid-range brand like Carrier or Panasonic retails for PHP 12,000 to PHP 18,000, and installation — which involves fitting it into a prepared opening in the wall or window frame — costs around PHP 1,500 to PHP 2,500. The entire setup can be completed in a few hours.

Split-type units start at PHP 20,000 for a basic non-inverter and rise to PHP 40,000–60,000 for a quality inverter model. Installation is more complex, requiring refrigerant pipe routing, wall bracket mounting, and electrical work — typically costing PHP 4,000 to PHP 8,000 depending on the pipe run length. For renters in apartments that prohibit wall modifications, window-type units are often the only viable option.

Noise and Aesthetics

This is where split-type units win decisively. The compressor — the loudest component — sits outside in the condenser unit, so the indoor unit produces only a quiet fan sound, typically 19–26 dB on low setting. This makes split-type units far superior for bedrooms and meeting rooms where noise matters.

Window-type units house everything in one box, so the compressor noise is audible inside the room.
